Call For Applicants: PIKSI-Boston Teaching Fellows

Philosophy in an Inclusive Key (PIKSI) seeks four Teaching Fellows for the PIKSI-Boston 2026 Summer Institute, to be held July 8-16, 2026, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. PIKSI-Boston is a week-long summer philosophy program that encourages undergraduates to pursue advanced study in the field. About twenty undergraduate fellows attend MIT for PIKSI-Boston, participating in seminars led by graduate teaching fellows, one-on-one mentorship sessions with teaching fellows, and lectures and panels on graduate school and academia featuring visiting professors.

Teaching Fellows teach a 90-minute seminar during PIKSI-Boston, organize and attend the week’s programming, mentor undergraduate fellows during and after PIKSI-Boston, reside in the dorm with the undergraduate fellows (although not in the same rooms), and assist in selecting undergraduate fellows. Teaching Fellows receive a stipend of $1500, accommodations and meals during PIKSI Week, and up to $150 in travel costs (in the form of a reimbursement).

To apply, please provide (1) a current CV and (2) a cover letter that addresses the following:

1. Describe your approach to teaching and mentoring undergraduates in philosophy, specifically addressing:
   1. Your core values and priorities as a teacher.
   2. How you would advise undergraduate students about graduate school.
   3. Your approach to mentoring students from broad backgrounds, both during and after PIKSI Week.
2. Reflect on your commitment to inclusive philosophy by providing a brief example of how you have promoted equity and inclusion in an academic setting.
3. Propose three distinct 90-minute seminars you’d be willing to teach (up to 150 words each). You may include sample activities and/or reading selections. We welcome proposals from all areas, but we particularly encourage proposals in metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of science, Asian philosophy, and trans philosophy.
4. (Optional) Please note any language proficiencies beyond English.

You may also submit (1) materials summarizing feedback you have received from students about your teaching and/or (2)  up to two letters of recommendation that address these questions on your behalf, focusing on your experience as a teacher and mentor, rather than your research.
